YD Youth Hockey GROW Program Information

Learn to Play Ice Hockey!

Open to children born in the years 2018 to 2011. New skaters welcome! 

Give Hockey a Try Session, no previous skating experience is required: Our Nov/Dec introductory session is held each year from early-November until mid-December (4 classes). We do not charge a tuition for this 4-week session, but all skaters are required to have a valid USA Hockey Membership Confirmation Number. Skaters who would like to continue can then participate in our seasonal 8 week sessions for a tuition of $275. All sessions are held at Tony Kent Arena in South Dennis

*Participants MUST obtain a mandatory USA Hockey membership confirmation number annually at membership.usahockey.com (valid for one full season - April 1 through August 31 the following year). This number will be required during registration on our website for the Grow Hockey session.

Once you have your USA Hockey number, please complete the registration on our site to sign up, click on the REGISTER button on the homepage. During this registration please indicate if you need equipment (except skates) or if you will be supplying your own, and the youth unisex clothing size that your child wears. This will help us ensure enough equipment in the correct sizes. You will receive a confirmation email once successfully registered and paid.

EQUIPMENT*

Equipment is available for a $175 refundable deposit. Deposit is returned when complete equipment bag is returned to the program.

Equipment Bag Includes: Helmet & mask, hockey jersey, shin guards, elbow pads, shoulder pads, pants, socks and hockey stick. SKATES ARE NOT INCLUDED as part of equipment issued, you must bring your own hockey skates. The hockey stick, jersey and socks are yours to keep.

WE HAVE A LIMITED NUMBER OF PAIRS OF SKATES THAT HAVE BEEN DONATED BY PREVIOUS FAMILIES. IF YOU ARE IN NEED, PLEASE INQUIRE AND WE WILL SEE IF WE CAN FIND A PAIR IN THE SIZE YOU NEED, PLEASE INDICATE SHOE SIZE IN INQUIRY.

PROGRAM

Our Grow Hockey program is facilated by the professional coaches of CAPE COD HOCKEY who focus on skating skills and fun drills to keep kids engaged and having fun!  From Session to Session skaters will progress from learning to skate to learning the game and practicing skills to deveop and grow as players.

Many skaters (age 5 and above) are ready to transition to a team within one to two sessions. In the Fall, we often have space on many of our teams to begin playing right away. In Winter, we can often integrate new players into practices and then follow into tryouts in the Spring.

TRYOUTS & TRAVEL TEAMS

After one or two sessions of Grow Hockey most players are ready to join a team, we often have room on many of our teams and will reach out when we know your child is ready. If you have interest in moving to a team, please ask as well. In late-winter each year, players are invited to participate in tryouts to be ranked for placement on a roster for one of our teams; all players make a team, we do not cut players. Our teams participate in the South Shore Conference with games held each weekend within approximately one hour or less of Tony Kent Arena.
